Atrial fibrillation (AF) affects more than 3 million Americans, with estimated prevalence of nearly 10% in 65 years and older. The prevalence of the disease increases steeplyin the elderly, affecting nearly 12% in 75–84 years, and approximately 1/3 in 80 years or older.
