Reversal of dilated cardiomyopathy after successful radio-frequency ablation of frequent atrial premature beats. A case of « atrial premature beat-related cardiomyopathy »

Tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy caused by frequent isolated atrial premature beats has never been reported. We report the case of a patient with a dilated non-ischemic cardiomyopathy and severely altered left ventricular ejection fraction in whom we suspected numerous and essentially isolated atrial premature beats as a potential cause for tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy. The elimination of a left atrial focus by percutaneous RF ablation led to normalization of the clinical status, and of atrial and ventricular dimensions and left ventricular systolic function.
